Over the past few months, I’ve had the pleasure to attend more than 20 religious services from different denominations, religions, etc. Every week I attend a different service, mostly Christian but also non-Christian.
Though most of the notes about my adventures are in my private journal, I also created this high-level log of where I’ve been so far (if you’re curious): Religion Exploration Log
Why are you doing this, Kev?
I’m doing this for many reasons including the following:
- I don’t know, but it’s exciting!
- I feel spiritually prompted/directed.
- I’ve spent much of my life encouraging others to explore my church, but rarely taken the time to explore theirs.
- I crave the bigger picture, I want to broaden my perspective, I want to see what others see.
I’ve spent 34 years of my life as an orthodox member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (AKA Mormon). I love the church and I still consider myself a member, but at this time in my life, I feel the need to explore a bit, to learn more from those around me, to zoom out.

Maybe you’re saying, “But Kev, what about your wife and kids? Shouldn’t you be spending your Sundays with them?”
It’s a valid concern, and fortunately for me, my wife and kids are supportive. They usually attend our local LDS ward while I’m exploring elsewhere, but sometimes I join them or they join me. We’re growing as a family!

It’s been an absolute joy to experience new ways to worship God from my brothers and sisters of different faiths here in Houston, Texas. I’ve already learned so much! But I’ve also only scratched the surface.

I’m not sure how long I’ll be on this spiritual journey or where it will take me, but I’ve enjoyed the ride so far! God is great. God loves me. God loves you. And God equally loves your Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Christian, Jewish neighbors as well.
